Somali armed troops, in collaboration with U.S. Africa Command, executed an airstrike aimed at ISIS fighters concealed in the Al-Miskaat Mountains of the Bari region in Puntland, Somalia.
On Sunday, the Somali Ministry of Information announced that the strikes took place on the evenings of February 21 and February 22, 2025, as part of initiatives to assist Puntland forces in eradicating the final remains of ISIS. Preliminary indications suggest that three ISIS combatants were eliminated, with no civilian casualties reported.
The Somali federal administration, in collaboration with U.S. Africa Command, announced it will persist in evaluating the operation’s progress and will inform the public of subsequent developments.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared the establishment of a specialized committee to oversee government assistance for Puntland’s battle against ISIS. The action signifies a robust demonstration of solidarity from Mogadishu in the region’s persistent struggle against the extremist organization.
During the inaugural session of the Somali Parliament on Saturday, Mohamud emphasized the government’s obligation to assist Puntland. He stated that federal authorities must guarantee the delivery of necessary commodities to frontline regions where local security forces are involved in intense combat with ISIS-affiliated insurgents.
