Mogadishu (Jidbaale) On Saturday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud convened a meeting with senior military officials at the Ministry of Defense in Mogadishu to discuss military campaigns throughout the country.
The gathering, which was graced by the presence of Major General Ibrahim Sheikh, the Commander of the Somali National Army, along with other high-ranking military officials, primarily centered over enhancing security protocols and progressing initiatives aimed at freeing the nation from terrorist menaces. The commanders furnished President Mohamud with reports regarding counterterrorism operations and security.
The meeting occurred simultaneously with Egypt’s provision of military assistance to Somalia on Tuesday, signifying the initial instance of such aid in more than four decades. We expect this action to intensify the existing tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia. These tensions have been increasing ever since Ethiopia entered into a preliminary deal with Somaliland, a territory that wanted to separate from Somalia.
Since July, Turkey has facilitated two rounds of indirect negotiations between Somalia and Ethiopia to discuss the Somaliland agreement. Anticipate a forthcoming third round of negotiations next month. As Somalia and Egypt get closer, the ramifications for regional stability and the Horn of Africa’s geopolitical landscape remain uncertain.
