The Somali Council of Ministers designated General Asad Osman Abdullahi as the next police commissioner on Thursday, succeeding Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin.
During the council’s weekly cabinet meeting, the Minister of Internal Security recommended his nomination.
From 2007 to 2018, General Abdullahi served as Commander of the Puntland Security Force (PSF).
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud elevated Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin to the rank of Major General. On Thursday, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre nominated him as the new Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
General Abdullahi’s considerable experience as PSF Commander makes him well-qualified for the position of police commissioner. His hiring has garnered acclaim from several authorities and members of the public, who anticipate that he will implement essential changes inside the police department. Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin’s elevation and his new post indicate a reorganization of essential leadership positions within the government, intended to improve efficiency and effectiveness across multiple sectors.
