Kenya and Somalia have welcomed the launch of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), aiming to build on the successes of its predecessor, the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia. The leaders stressed the need for a seamless transition before AUSSOM takes over on January 1. They called for suitable support and investigated all financial alternatives. President Sheikh thanked Ruto for his efforts in Somalia’s state formation and participation in the restoration of peace, security, and stability. They also emphasized the need to assist in the execution of the Somali Security Development Plan for the Somali Security Forces and called on the international community to help create capacities and guarantee a seamless transition.
Ruto and Sheikh recognized collaboration under the Joint Commission for Collaboration Framework, which works to enhance ties between the two nations. They emphasized the opportunity for the two countries to exploit their advantages to develop a mutually advantageous bilateral commerce system. They vowed to address all impediments to trade by opening markets and enabling the circulation of products and services. They urged their trade ministers to investigate methods of expanding commerce and encouraged the private sector to take advantage of pro-business policies enacted by both governments.
