More than 30 federal legislators convene in Kismayo for a Jubbaland consultative forum.

Over 30 members of Somalia’s federal parliament assembled in Kismayo for an anti-federal government consultative conference organized by Jubbaland leader Ahmed Madobe to examine the country’s political atmosphere.

We have postponed the meeting, originally scheduled for Friday, to accommodate the arrival of additional MPs currently abroad.

The participating MPs firmly endorsed Jubbaland’s position on national political matters, denouncing the Federal Government of Somalia for what they dubbed a “tribal conflict” targeting both Jubbaland and Puntland. They accused the administration of employing divisive strategies that damaged the stability of these areas.

Jubbaland and Puntland authorities have both rejected the proposed framework for the 2026 elections from the National Consultative Council meeting, accusing Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of pushing for a term extension that might destabilize the nation.

Tensions deteriorated further when Madobe stormed out of a recent National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting in Mogadishu, requesting the involvement of Puntland and SSC Khatumo in the discussions—a request that followed Puntland’s boycott of NCC sessions amid its own conflict with the federal administration.
