Kenya Airways announced on Friday the suspension of all flights to and from Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, effective October 15, citing operational issues while restructuring its network.

The airline said in a statement from Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, that this decision would enable it to concentrate on refining its route network and enhancing overall operating efficiency.

“Kenya Airways consistently refines its flight schedule to better match demand and performance goals, while ensuring the safety of its crew and passengers,” the company stated.

The Kenyan flag carrier committed to reaching out to passengers with reservations on impacted flights to or from Mogadishu, made on or before October 4, for travel on or before October 15, to facilitate alternative travel arrangements, including rebooking, refunds, or rerouting.

Kenya Airways announced many network modifications for the next peak season to enhance operational efficiency and fluidity. Beginning October 27, an extra flight from Mauritius to Nairobi will be available, operating on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The airline announced an extra flight frequency from Nairobi to the Comoros on Thursdays starting October 28, operating on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Starting October 28, flights to Zanzibar will rise to seven per week, and from November 1, there will be an extra flight from Nairobi to Kigali, Rwanda, on Fridays, bringing the total weekly flights to Kigali to 25.

Kenya Airways announced the addition of two flights from Nairobi to New York between December 5 and January 4, 2025, scheduled for Thursdays and Saturdays.
