Jubbaland halts collaboration with the federal administration, claiming breaches of the constitution.

The Jubbaland Regional State administration has halted collaboration with the federal government, citing the latter’s failure to adhere to Somalia’s constitution and its disregard for Jubbaland’s autonomy.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Jubbaland issued a statement condemning the federal government for impeding Jubbaland’s election process and thwarting anti-al-Shabaab initiatives in the province.

The Jubbaland administration announces the suspension of its cooperative partnership with the Federal administration of Somalia until the latter adheres to the nation’s Constitution and honors the aspirations of the Jubbaland populace, according to the statement.

This action comes after Jubbaland established a seven-member independent electoral commission, designated by President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe, to supervise the region’s election preparations. On Sunday, the Jubbaland State Parliament officially sanctioned the formation of the committee.

The federal Ministry of Internal Affairs promptly denounced Jubbaland’s election body, deeming it unlawful and jeopardizing Somalia’s democratic integrity. The ministry urged Jubbaland to comply with the National Consultative Council (NCC) accords, which need Somalia’s cohesive, universal suffrage election system.

In defiance of federal disapproval, the Himilo Qaran political party, headed by former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, has openly endorsed Jubbaland’s move, supporting President Madobe’s election commission as a measure to maintain regional autonomy.
