The Turkish Parliament has sanctioned a presidential resolution to prolong the deployment of Turkish naval troops in the Gulf of Aden, waterways near Somalia, the Arabian Sea, and surrounding areas for one more year, commencing February 10.
The extension reiterates Türkiye’s commitment to confronting marine challenges in the area, such as piracy, armed robbery, and maritime terrorism, which jeopardize international peace and stability and affect Türkiye’s national interests.
The motion underscored Türkiye’s significant role in international security initiatives aimed at safeguarding maritime traffic and maintaining regional peace.
Turkey first sanctioned the deployment of its naval troops in the area on February 10, 2009, for a duration of one year. The mandate has been perpetually extended to facilitate continuous anti-piracy and marine security activities.
