In a statement, SSC Khaatumo said that Somaliland troops attacked both military posts and nomadic people in the region, resulting in severe skirmishes that have harmed soldiers and civilians alike.
The SSC Khaatumo leadership denounces this assault as a terrorist act intended to undermine the tranquility in the SSC Khaatumo territory. This unjustified attack demonstrates a flagrant contempt for stability. We are determined to protect our area and will not allow these assaults on our people, the statement continued.
The newly created SSC government called on the international community to address these events, pushing for urgent talks and an early suspension of hostilities to protect people and avert future war.
Heavy battles between Somaliland troops, supported by local militias, and SSC-Khaatumo soldiers erupted on Thursday and Friday in the Shangeed and Qorilugud districts, apparently causing severe losses on both sides.
